Background: Chantal Heutink
For 20 years, Chantal was active in the world of business. But all the time she was working in the corporate atmosphere of dress suits and high heels, she never let go of her childhood dream: the dream of travelling through darkest Africa as a modern-day Florence Nightingale.
Until 2006 she kept asking herself: 'Do I keep on dreaming about it or am I finally going to do it?'. Since that time, her question has been answered.
After a trip to Kenya where she spent four months working as a volunteer, Chantal set up the Afri-can Foundation. Through this foundation, a number of successful projects have been started up. These projects range from a peanut butter factory, to a garage and training centre, to the production of washable sanitary towels.
Chantal's passion and enthusiasm comes from within and has its origins in her own past.
The path she had to travel was not a smooth one. She knows, like no other, what it means to rise up from a challenging background. By finding the courage to 'Do', she embarked on an adventure, discovered new opportunities and changed the course of her life.
